Jenny Vrentas has recently departed for another journalistic adventure. From CNN, Jenny has covered the sex trafficking scandal engulfing the Catholic Church, reports from California’s wildfires, and has covered the Iran missile crisis.
Jenny is also the author of Capturing Simon and the Covering the Iran Missile Crisis, a Bloomberg Businessweek cover story. The book was nominated for a 2017 National Book Award.
Jenny brings her knowledge and perspective to her new position as Daily Beast Senior Editor-at-Large, where she will continue to focus on covering a broad array of breaking news for the print and digital audience.
“Her work has been a vital part of our coverage for a number of years,” said Jon Clarke, Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Beast. “We couldn’t be happier to have her join our existing staff.”
“I’m ecstatic to have Jenny join the Daily Beast,” said Noah Shachtman, Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Beast. “Her passion for breaking news, combined with her analytical and thoughtful approach to covering stories makes her an ideal addition to our team and a powerful voice in the narrative of the future of news.”
In recent months, Jenny has had an editorial run of many fast-breaking news stories, which she has helped cultivate the audience with by sharing both by live tweeting and online. In addition to her work on CNN, she has also been a commentator on This American Life, and anchors her own show, “The Great Divide,” on News Hour with Jim Lehrer.
Jenny is a 2015 graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in political science. Prior to her tenure at The Daily Beast, Jenny produced videos for Northwestern University’s Medill News Service and for the Chinese-language edition of the Associated Press.
