Bella Hadid and Pharrell Williams wore outfits inspired by the party style of the 90s — with a twist — to the MTV Video Music Awards, in case that is not clear enough by now.

From the short shorts to the flippy, high-top sneakers, the two looked amazing Thursday night, performing as a duo at The Hamptons’ HighLine Ball, a party curated by high fashion designer Jimmy Choo.

They had both worn the same outfit to the Grammys, but, the night before the MTV VMAs, Bella was wearing a pair of short shorts and a sleeveless shirt (with a vest she’d donned to cover some of her cleavage), while a long-sleeved dress was worn by Pharrell. For that performance, he kept wearing that coat and hat, but also donned a pair of bright-orange, neon-colored stiletto pumps, which had his trademark “Pharrell Williams” name prominently emblazoned.

Bella and Pharrell had no idea their matching outfits would be seen by so many, and some may even consider it a gimmick. Yet, they went out of their way to make sure people had a good time. Pharrell told MTV News that when he first saw Bella with a dress on, he wasn’t sure what she was wearing. When he realized she was wearing a dress with a vest, it was all a bit much to handle for him. “If I’m out there with this top, you don’t expect me to be dressed like a clown,” he said.

Pharrell also admitted that he was never sure what to expect when he saw Bella and knew he had to do something to shake things up. “I didn’t know what she was going to look like or what she was going to wear,” he said. “Then I met her at The Hamptons, and we talked about what she was wearing, and she took it and ran with it.”
