Los Angeles City Council endorses third candidate for District 13 seat

Endorsement: Hugo Soto-Martínez for Los Angeles City Council District 13 seat

CALIFORNIA CITY LAWYERS are backing a third candidate for one of 10 District 13 Council seats representing Hollywood and the South Bay.

The final tally of the endorsements Tuesday night was nine in support of Soto-Martínez.

Soto-Martínez is an attorney whose resume includes work as a prosecutor, criminal defense attorney and city councilwoman.

The endorsement of District 13 Councilman Mike Bonin, who is running for re-election, was one of three the board of supervisors chose not to endorse.

Also backing Soto-Martínez are State Rep. Joe Simitian of Glendale, Assemblyman Ian Calderon of Westwood, former Councilman Raul Peralez and State Sen. Ed Hernandez.

District 13 Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas endorsed former Councilman Tony Vazquez and has not endorsed for a seat in the seat.

Bianca Holcombe, who is running for the State Assembly, chose not to endorse in the elections today.

Soto-Martínez was nominated this week by former District 13 Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas.

The Board of Supervisors votes on whether to endorse the final candidates for each race for District 13 City Council seats, including the ones not on the ballot.

Bianca Holcombe, a Democrat, was not among those endorsed in the District 13 races, but is running in the June primary to fill the seat left vacant by former Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas when he resigned in December after being convicted of three felonies.

She would be the third African American woman in the Los Angeles City Council. The other two are Councilman Bill Rosendahl, D-Canoga Park, and Mike Bonin, R-Yorba Linda.

Candidates for the five seats not on the ballot were listed
